Having discovered bioinformatics through open houses at the University of Montreal, Carl Munoz has since completed a bachelor’s degree in bioinformatics there. During this time, he has completed two internships under Dr. Franz Lang at the Robert Cedergren Centre, using covariance models to find and annotate mitochondrial rnpB in Basidiomycete fungi. Currently, he is pursuing a PhD in bioinformatics directed by Sébastien Lemieux, where he is searching how to use deep learning diffusion models to denoise low-coverage RNA-seq data.
